While he loves swimming it is the military-like training, which the same group of people, doing the same styles and competing for ranks that is the issue. Lu feels what is a talent holds him hostage and he does not swim happy at all. Glancing to Zhou he does recall his coach mentioning him but Lu does not care since he intends to quit the club right after this. With the fastest start time Lu can clearly sense what he feels is the dangerous air around Zhou. Even with himself in the lead Lu adds that it is very heavy, just like a shark after its prey and he cannot let Zhou catch up to him since Lu considers Zhou to have a terrifying mounting pressure about him. Seeing that he won Lu thinks it is as if he just performed some amazing feat and he attains a gold medal. Five years later Lu reflects how he swam for a couple of years and after finding training to be too boring he quit the club. Recently Lu was accepted into an average city uni, Donglin University. The best thing was the different types of hot girls and Lu thinks how city girls are seriously way different to country ones. Lu views it as a downside to have not swam in three days. He wonders why a strange person squeezed him so painfully after the encounter with Zhou. With the first year's gym course not offering swimming and that he is not part of the team Lu ignores the order to leave and intends to swim anyway. Rather than join a team Lu just wants to swim freely and has retained a dislike for strict training practices and feels races are even more of a waste of time. Seeing Zhou as the face pincher Lu warns him that if this is repeated he cannot be blamed for hitting him back. His response to not being permitted to swim is to just sneak in at night.
Zhou Guan
At 14 Zhou is regarded by other swimmers as an unbeatable swimming genius. His dad was a former national athlete who Zhou was trained by. Swimming at a distance behind Lu for much of the race Zhou would catch up within the final 10M. The prodigy, undefeated champion of swimmers finishes second place to Lu. While silent his expression is angered as Zhou is berated by his coach for this result then he glowers at Lu. Five years later Zhou has tattoos on his arms and joins the university class Lu is in. Hearing his name called Zhou pulls the student seated next to Lu away before proceeding to hold Lu's face. Similarly he wordlessly approaches Lu in the showers before moving on with others commenting. With his trophies on display Zhou has kept the photograph of Lu winning first place. Clear it is the right Lu he asks if he knows how long he has searched for him. Zhou is not happy to hear that he is not remembered by Zhou.
Lu's Coach
She discovered Lu's talent and drafted him into the team. Motivating Lu out of a desire for him to win, while she was kindly well-meaning and her practices delivered results it also contributed to Lu's dissatisfied attitude towards competitive swimming where he would quit.
Zhou's Coach
Asking Zhou how it felt to lose he adds that to him if it is not first place then Zhou means absolutely nothing. Zhou's coach is shouting as he continues that those who say participation is what matters are merely comforting words for the weak. Ordering him to go back and reflect on himself he concludes to Zhou that this world always has someone stronger than he can imagine.
Donglin University Lecturer
Noting Zhou's abrupt arrival she continues to call names on the register. With Zhou manhandling a student she shouts which class is he from and how dare he fool around. Stating that she did not even lecture Zhou for walking into her class late the lecturer says Zhou is breaking class rules and questions whether he wants her to kick him out. The lecturer is near Zhou and orders him out of the class if he is not here to learn after he takes ahold of Lu.
Coach Shen
A swimming instructor at Donglin University, she questions why Lu does not want to join the swimming team. Shen considers him an interesting child who talks as if he had swum in competitions before.
Ding Dun
A student who answers the register in Lu's university class.
Li Kang
This student is in the same class as Lu.
Story
Lu beside Zhou before the 100M swimming race
This world always has someone stronger than you can ever imagine. At the annual national youth swimming competition the men's 100m is about to start. As Lu Ze registers, his coach, Shen, states he is up against his biggest opponent, Zhou Guan. As he arrives other swimmers are in awe with one commenting how now they can only get second place. As the race begins Lu has a start time of 0.3, Zhou has 0.5 and other competitors Chen X.J has 0.6 and Wu T. with 0.8. Although Lu expresses concern at Zhou, with the 50M reached he retains the lead. At the last 10M the two are neck and neck before Lu is announced the victor. As Zhou is harshly chided by his coach Lu's coach takes him to collect their gold medal.[1]
5 years later seeing one another at university
Five years later Lu attends Donglin University and considers the girls there. As the lecturer calls for those present Zhou enters the class as well. He is confrontational towards a student near Lu and then to his person as well. Instructed to leave the class Zhou thinks to forget it since there are probably many people called Lu Ze.[2] As he considers his cheeks Lu sees people swimming and asks if he can join in but the instructor refuses. While Lu wants to swim he does not want to join the swim team.[3] The instructor explains that it has been two years and no one has been able to meet coach Shen's expectations.
Zhou confirms it is Lu
Lu heads to the showers and finds Zhou there. Although he stands nearby Zhou leaves after others snigger how he pinched Lu's face.[4] After checking a photo Zhou heads to room 503 to ask where Lu is. His roommate mentions him swimming and Zhou dashes away. Finding him at the pool Zhou questions where Lu disappeared to after the race five years ago. Where Zhou wanted to race again Lu dismisses such as notion.[5]
